In this role, she brings clinical expertise, strong leadership, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. A dedicated advocate for patients’ rights, she strives to ensure that every patient is treated with dignity and receives the highest quality care.

Passionate about point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), Caritas incorporates it into her practice and guides colleagues in using it for faster, more accurate clinical decisions. She is currently pursuing an MA in Health Law and Ethics, applying ethical and legal principles to enhance patient care. Additionally, she is working toward specialization in Family Medicine with a focus on palliative care.

Curious and hands-on by nature, Caritas thrives on learning new skills and engaging in practical, hands-on projects. Outside the clinic, she channels her creativity into event planning and DIY projects, bringing the same care and attention to detail to her hobbies as she does in her medical practice.

Francois Xavier Uwimana https://globalultrasoundinstitute.com/faculty/francois-xavier-uwimana/ Wed, 29 Oct 2025 22:42:22 +0000 https://globalultrasoundinstitute.com/?post_type=gusi-staff&p=77223 Dr. Francois Xavier Uwimana is a specialist in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care, with fellowship training in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) from the Ultrasound Leadership Academy (2018–2020). He currently serves as Head of the Emergency and Critical Care Services Department at both Nyarugenge Hospital (full-time) and La Croix du Sud Hospital (part-time).

With over 14 years of clinical experience, Dr. Uwimana has extensive expertise in bedside ultrasound, trauma care, and critical care management. His career began as a general practitioner in the Maternity Department of a remote district hospital (2012–2017), where he developed a strong foundation in ultrasound-guided care. He later completed his Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care, further advancing his clinical and leadership roles.

Dr. Uwimana is actively involved in medical education and training. He serves as Visiting Faculty for the University of Rwanda’s Emergency Medicine Program and was appointed the program’s Ultrasound Training Focal Person. He currently chairs the Board of the Rwanda Emergency Care Association (RECA) and has played a key role in developing national capacity in trauma and emergency response.

As a Certified National Facilitator for healthcare service quality improvement and hospital accreditation, Dr. Uwimana collaborates with the Ministry of Health and the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) to enhance emergency care standards across Rwanda.

He earned his MBBS in General Medicine from the People’s Republic of China (2005–2011) and has held various clinical roles, including ICU staff at King Faisal Hospital (2018–2023), where he applied POCUS principles extensively in critical care practice.

Nimeka Phillip https://globalultrasoundinstitute.com/faculty/nimeka-phillip/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 22:58:29 +0000 https://globalultrasoundinstitute.com/?post_type=gusi-staff&p=77213 Dr. Nimeka Phillip is a family physician who values full-spectrum care.  She works as an attending physician in the Obstetrics department at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, California, as a detention health provider at the Contra Costa County jail, as a hospitalist at Adventist Health in Ukiah, California and as a residency preceptor in primary care and Obstetrics at the Adventist Health Family Medicine Residency Program in Ukiah, California.  Dr. Phillip graduated from the Latin American School of Medicine, in Havana, Cuba, attended family medicine residency at the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina and attended Obstetrics Fellowship at Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina.  She is passionate about improving outcomes for people in low-resource settings, where ultrasound can be a powerful tool to provide care. Her hobbies are language studies, dance, running, travel and family activities with her young daughters.

He has trained at the University of Iowa (MD), Medical City Arlington Family Medicine (Residency), and Maine-Dartmouth Sports Medicine (Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship). He has previously participated in advanced ultrasound procedure clinics via the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He also incorporates MSK-focused POCUS into his daily clinics, training rooms, and sideline coverage for the athletes at the University of Oregon. Outside of work, Christoffer enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife, Madison, as well as their two cats and can be found exercising, cooking, or hiking.

She went to Arizona State University for undergrad majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chinese language. After undergrad, she completed a master’s in the Science of Healthcare Delivery at ASU before attending the University of Arizona for medical school. Her first time in the Bay was coming to UCSF for residency where she is currently doing an Ultrasound fellowship. Outside of work, Terri is an avid Costco lover and plans to eat her way through the City. Her cats back home in Arizona are Donggua and Sagua named after the PBS cartoon “Sagwa the Siamese Cat”. He currently leads the POCUS elective for interested medical students at UCSF. Additionally, he is regularly seen in the anatomy lab, helping first-year students connect the anatomy they are dissecting to the images obtained with POCUS.

Prior to moving to San Francisco, Dr. Solder completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and concurrently earned his Master of Education (M.Ed.) at the University of Houston in Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Solder brings his enthusiasm for instruction and his understanding of adult learning theories and educational design to GUSI courses.

He provides primary care at La Clínica de la Raza in Oakland and practices on the Labor and Delivery unit at Alta Bates Medical Center.

Dr. Marín completed the Global Ultrasound Institute (GUSI) Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Fellowship and now integrates ultrasound into both his clinical practice and resident education. His work focuses on advancing the accessibility and practical application of ultrasound for family physicians.

Fasih Hameed https://globalultrasoundinstitute.com/faculty/fasih-hameed/ Sat, 18 Oct 2025 00:02:39 +0000 https://globalultrasoundinstitute.com/?post_type=gusi-staff&p=76816 Dr. Hameed is a full-scope, integrative family physician and teacher who embraces both technology and ancient healing traditions in an obsessive pursuit of “Good Medicine”.  His day jobs involve leading primary care and wellness innovations at a large Northern California FQHC, teaching procedural medicine, caring for a large patient panel, and outpatient medical attending at the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency.   He is a pioneer in the field of Integrative Medicine for the underserved, frequent invited guest speaker, and has advocated for common-sense, whole-person approaches to health at a congressional briefing in DC, the California state Capitol, and at the National Academy of Science Engineering and Medicine.   In 2024 he was awarded the “Change Maker Award” by the AIHM.

He was also an early adopter of POCUS in the FQHC setting and continues to refine the efficient integration of this powerful tool into everyday primary care practice.  His POCUS specialties include MSK, procedures, foreign body, and soft tissue.

She completed her medical degree at Nagoya City University and her foundation training at Wakkanai City Hospital in Japan, where she gained broad clinical experience. She is also registered with GMC (General Medical Council) in United Kingdom.

Dr. Uruma has extensive experience teaching POCUS across Japan, serving as an instructor at national conferences and workshops including the Japanese Association for Home Care Medicine, the Family Medicine Winter Seminar, and the Hokkaido Primary Forum. She also led the Asahikawa Medical University Student POCUS League, training medical students in ultrasound technique and clinical application.

Her global health activities include volunteering in medical camps and providing ultrasound education in Kenya, reflecting her dedication to improving healthcare access and training worldwide. Skilled in echocardiography as well as abdominal, lung, and musculoskeletal ultrasound, Dr. Uruma integrates practical diagnostic imaging into clinical and educational settings.

Dr. Uruma is committed to advancing the use of ultrasound in primary care and fostering international collaboration in medical education.
