She completed her medical degree at Nagoya City University and her foundation training at Wakkanai City Hospital in Japan, where she gained broad clinical experience. She is also registered with GMC (General Medical Council) in United Kingdom.

Dr. Uruma has extensive experience teaching POCUS across Japan, serving as an instructor at national conferences and workshops including the Japanese Association for Home Care Medicine, the Family Medicine Winter Seminar, and the Hokkaido Primary Forum. She also led the Asahikawa Medical University Student POCUS League, training medical students in ultrasound technique and clinical application.

Her global health activities include volunteering in medical camps and providing ultrasound education in Kenya, reflecting her dedication to improving healthcare access and training worldwide. Skilled in echocardiography as well as abdominal, lung, and musculoskeletal ultrasound, Dr. Uruma integrates practical diagnostic imaging into clinical and educational settings.

Dr. Uruma is committed to advancing the use of ultrasound in primary care and fostering international collaboration in medical education.

Over the years, he has developed expertise in musculoskeletal health, earning qualifications in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and Musculoskeletal Injection Therapy to enhance clinical practice. His commitment to continuous professional development has led him to complete a Diploma in Musculoskeletal Examination and Injury Management, as well as a Professional Diploma in Clinical Leadership. With a background spanning emergency medicine, pediatrics, and care of the elderly he bring a well-rounded approach to patient care.
He was part of the first cohort of GPs in Ireland to receive formal POCUS training for primary care and continue to advocate for its integration into everyday clinical practice. He regularly use POCUS in nursing homes and in care for the elderly, improving diagnostic accuracy and patient management for older adults. In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in medical education as a tutor for medical students and a supervisor for GP trainees and residents. He is excited to be working with GUSI to educate and encourage the use of POCUS in primary care in Ireland, helping to enhance diagnostic capabilities and patient care.
Beyond his medical expertise, he is an accomplished endurance athlete, competing in Ironman events while promoting injury prevention and rehabilitation. Through his clinical, educational, and athletic endeavors, He strive to drive innovation, excellence, and patient-centered care.

He is currently one of if not the only, GP in Northern Ireland using Point of Care Ultrasound techniques for routine Primary Care work in practice. He is working towards changing this through my work in GUSI! He enjoys his role as an accredited GP Trainer and Medical Student educator, and he is also a trainer in Minor Surgical and Joint Injection Techniques. He has been performing Minor Surgery and corticosteroid injections in practice for over 13 years.

Alberto Romero Galán https://globalultrasoundinstitute.com/faculty/alberto-romero-galan/ Wed, 19 Jun 2024 18:18:54 +0000 https://staging.gusipocus.com/gusi-staff/alberto-romero-galan/ Dr Alberto Romero Galán, is a specialist in family and community medicine, and a mentor for clinical ultrasound in Spain as a member of the ultrasound group of the Spanish Society of General and Family Medicine (SEMG). He is also registered as an IMC (Irish Medical Council) specialist in Ireland.

He works as a GP in out-of-hours services in Ireland and serves as a GP in the Irish Army in the barracks in Kilkenny. Alberto participates as a teacher of clinical ultrasound courses in person in Spain, with several in person courses during the year. One of them is of long duration (100 hours) and is held twice a year, offering students continuous teaching for several days, with direct supervision, and practical and theoretical classes. The rest of the courses are usually subject specific (neck, abdomen, musculoskeletal…).

Alberto was born in Huelva (Spain), where he grew up and was educated until he moved to Seville to study Medicine. Once he finished his medical degree, he moved to Salamanca, where he did his specialized training period (equivalent to residency) as a family doctor, using ultrasound as a key tool in his practice for the study of patients. After that he worked as a doctor in a primary care center, until he moved to Ireland in 2022. This did not stop his training in ultrasound, which he has kept active in Spain and has allowed him to become a mentor.

He enjoys reading, especially crime novels. His love for ultrasound has made its study into a hobby, as well. He also loves paddle tennis, ping-pong, board games, and soccer. He likes to travel, and his current job and situation allow him to do it often.

Scott has been scanning for many years, working in both the NHS and private sector in general abdominal, urology, gynaecology and musculoskeletal ultrasound. Scott has a passion for teaching and has trained numerous candidates from various universities and hospitals and is enthusiastic for the benefits POCUS brings to healthcare.

Scott was born in Cornwall, UK but grew up on the west coast of Canada. He has since returned to Cornwall where he lives by the sea with his family. When he is not organising study days or preparing university lectures, Scott enjoys a quiet glass of wine and good jazz.

Prior to this I worked at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, initially as a Healthcare Support Worker then progressing in the field of healthcare over a 7-yr period, gaining experience within Cardiac, Vascular and Respiratory Sciences, specialising in Cardiology. I went on to complete a MSc in Cardiac Science at Manchester Metropolitan University, alongside completing a Scientific Training Programme allowing me to hold the title of Clinical Scientist in the UK. I am both SCST and BSE accredited, specialising in Echocardiography. I am also an end-point assessor for Bristol University, assisting in the growth of Cardiac Physiologists in the UK.

I am passionate about healthcare development, education delivery and optimising patient care. I am excited to be given the opportunity to work with the GUSI team to provide POCUS training to primary healthcare providers, aiming to streamline patient care delivery in the UK, reducing waiting times and unnecessary referrals.

Laura has been scanning for 12 years working in both the NHS and private sector scanning general abdominal, obstetrics and gynecology, renal, and testes ultrasound where she has also had the opportunity to train other student sonographers. She has been approached to assist in the training of POCUS by a local GP and is excited to teach others what she has learned over the years. She hopes this will benefit many patients enabling them to receive more timely diagnoses and treatments.

Clinical Lecturer of Exeter Medical School (UK), a GP Trainer and Educational Supervisor (Health Education England) and a Senior Mentor to newly qualified Family Physicians enrolled in the Fellowship Programme of South West of England NHS Leadership Academy.

He is an attending Family Medicine Physician (General Practitioner) at Middleway Surgery, where he is the lead Research Physician, near Carlyon Bay in St Austell on the south coast of Cornwall (UK).

Pascual runs in person POCUS training courses three times a year in Cornwall (UK). He also has served as an instructor on the “London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Ultrasound Course for the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene” (London). In the last twelve months he has trained over sixty junior doctors (residents) ultrasound imaging acquisition techniques and clinical image interpretation.

Pascual was born and educated in Barcelona (Spain) where he gained his medical degree from UB (la Universidad de Barcelona) Medical School and his MBA qualification from European University Business School. He completed postgraduate training in Family Medicine (General Practice) in Truro (Cornwall) followed by academic training in Public Health and Epidemiology at Cambridge University and Pharmaceutical Medicine at Cardiff University in Wales (UK). He is a member of the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) and a member of the Royal College of General Practitioner (RCGP) in England.

Pascual’s hobbies entail dinghy sailing, playing tennis, and competing in local amateur tournaments. He also has an interest in guitar playing (mainly flamenco with occasional attempts at blues and jazz with his Gibson Les Paul), but feels he is not good enough to play in public yet.
